Getting Started Tutorial (video)

This tutorial video covers how to:

  • Navigate through the interface
  • Change your views
  • Navigate the layer panel
  • Create a project
  • Upload, edit and delete folders, layers or files

Video Overview:


Controls:

  • On the right-hand side, you'll see a description of what the different tools do. To look around, you can left-click and drag to move the Earth.
  • To zoom in, you can use the mouse wheel or the zoom buttons.
  • If you want to rotate your view, you can hold down the center mouse button or hold down the control key and left-click.

 

Top Menu Bar:

  • On the right side at the top, you'll see the home button, which takes you back to the main map.
  • If you have a free account, it will give you the option to upgrade for more storage and more users.
  • There's also the help button, which takes you to the support site, and the "My Team" button, which enables sharing if you create a team.
  • You can edit/view your profile by click in on your user name located to the farthest right.

Map Controls:

  • The search button allows you to search for addresses or landmarks, and the home button resets your view.
  • view setup, where you can switch between globe view and planar view.
  • The map icon shows you the available base maps.
  • The navigation controls button shows you the navigation controls again, and the zoom controls are located here.
  • The north compass rose/arrow indicates the north direction. You can click and drag in the area next to it to rotate your view like a joystick.
  • To the right of that is the draw / edit button, which allows you to draw points, paths, or polygons. Paths and polygons have associated measurements.

View Menu:

 

  • The view menu is the eye icon that is located at the bottom right. Click on it shows additional options.
  • 3D view, switches from spherical earth to world terrain to show heights.
  • Transparency button - makes the globe transparent for viewing underground data sets
  • 3D buildings – turns on Open Street Map 3D buildings
  • VR mode – turns into a split screen for using via mobile with Google Cardboard or similar VR headset. (only works with Android currently)
  • Location

Left Menu – Layer Panel:

  • On the left side, we have the left menu with layers, uploads, and support.
  • Clicking layers shows all the files, folders, and projects. If there's no project, you can create one by clicking the plus button.
  • You can name the project and add additional folders as needed. The project acts as container for all of your files and folders.
  • The tricolon (three vertical dots) action button allows you to interact with projects, folders and layers with the following options:: add folder, share project, rename, upload to the current folder, move, add wms layer, download or delete.
  • Once the files are uploaded, they appear in the layers folder. You may need to wait for processing depending on the file size.
  • To zoom in on a layer, double-clicking on it, or use the tricolon action button and then click zoom to layer.
  • Clicking on a layer on the globe opens the info panel on the right-hand side, and highlights the file in the layer panel.

Right Menu – Info Panel

The info panel provides information about the layer, allows you to add descriptions, tags, and media attachments.

The panel has the following sections

  • Adjust altitude mode - adjust altitude by choosing absolute, clamp to ground or a custom altitude
  • Style - change colors, transparency, and more
  • Attributes - this is all of the metadata and information associated with this layer
  • Make sure to save any changes made.
